Wines of Tuscany

Sunrise over farm house and vineyard in Tuscany

The birthplace of the Renaissance, Tuscany (or Toscana in Italian) is home to some of Italy's boldest and brightest red wines. One of the most prestigious is Chianti Classico, which is far more flavoursome than regular Chianti. It's made in a small area in the mountains between Florence and Siena. These premium wines are complex, with concentrated aromas of red fruits, spices and herbs.

Meanwhile, Super Tuscans are highly sought after red wines made from Tuscany's signature grape Sangiovese blended with international superstars like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Originally developed by pioneering producers rebelling against strict appellation laws, today they've taken their place among the iconic wines of Tuscany.

Another of Italy's most legendary wines, Brunello di Montalcino, is produced in south of Tuscany near the medieval town of Montalcino. Rosso di Montalcino is a more accessible alternative, produced in the same way but aged for a year less.
