Still Dry White Wine

Crisp and refreshing wine from the ancient town of Montefalco with notes of lemongrass, lime, sweet grapefruit and minerality

Thanks to its crisp, uber-fresh taste of lemongrass and lime, as well as bitter undertones of grapefruit and rosemary, Umbria’s Trebbiano Spoletino has become a new hit all over Italy. Essentially, it’s the perfect summer wine – or a year-round aperitif. It pairs awfully well with any seafood on your plate, be it sushi, oysters or mussels. Spoletino will also work perfectly with a fatty fish like salmon, because its acid will “cut through” the fat.

Despite what the name suggests, the refreshing Trebbiano Spoletino grape has nothing in common with Trebbiano Toscano, which produces neutral wines and was often used in inexpensive Chianti.

We are happy to present this top-quality example of Trebbiano Spoletino crafted by Fratelli Pardi – an award-winning winery from the historic town of Montefalco. Spoleto is not a simple wine either – it’s been awarded Two Glasses by Gambero Rosso and a glowing review by Dave McIntyre in Washington Post: “this wine is mineral to the core….I liked it more with each sip”.

Winemaking

Trebbiano ripens late, so grapes for Spoleto are picked by hand between the third week of September and the start of October. They are gently pressed, and the juice is fermented for twenty days at a controlled temperature of 18°C in stainless steel tanks. Albertino Pardi, the winemaker, doesn’t perform malolactic fermentation. This retains the natural acids from the grapes and brings the crisp and refreshing taste to its limit. After fermentation is finished, the wine is bottled and stored in cellar for three months to mature and integrate its flavours.

Tasting notes

Spoleto has an enchanting colour of pale gold in the glass. There’s nothing timid in this wine, it bursts with a wave of fresh flavours like lemongrass, jasmine flower and lime, as well as bitter-sweet notes of grapefruit, pear drop and fresh rosemary. Spoleto has medium alcohol and medium body. Each sip is full of sharp, mouth-watering acidity, leaving a long and fresh aftertaste of green herbs and sweet grapefruit in the mouth.
