Juicy blend of Merlot, Cabernet and Raboso Piave with flavours of violet flower, red cherry, tobacco and vanilla

Ca’ di Rajo “Marinò” comes from the flatlands near the village of Rai, 40km north of Venice. This area is the historic home of Rabolo Piave – a grape that brings uncompromised acidity and notes of red berries to the trio in this blend. Merlot, Cabernet and Raboso are all tannic and known for producing powerful wines. It’s no surprise that Marinò benefits from long oak ageing, helping it to develop complex flavours and aromas.

Winemaking

Marinò is made of 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Raboso Piave. After crushing, the grapes are fermented in oak vats for 20-25 days. The long fermentation, carried out at a temperature of 24-26°C, helps to extract colour and tannins from the grape skins. The wine is then aged for 14 months in large used oak barrels.

Tasting note

In the glass, Marinò has a deep ruby colour. The wine opens up with fresh aromas of violet flower, red cherry and dried raspberry. Notes of black tea, vanilla, espresso, leather and tobacco show a great inner depth. The noticeable tannins are balanced by juicy acidity.

  1. Alesio

Very drinkable, full bodied, fairly robust red. Stays on the pallet well, deep cherry and blackcurrant. I found it went very well with strong cheese.

  2. Rosie

Great discovery – we were very pleasantly surprised by this smooth, delicious wine. And a quick delivery too. Absolutely fantastic and would highly recommend it.
