Dark and flavourful Chianti Riserva with flavours of kirsch and dark chocolate.

This organic Rùfina Riserva wine comes from the village of Dicomano, found in mountains north-east of Florence. Located in the foothills of Apennines, it is the highest and the coolest part of the Chianti Rùfina sub-zone. Some critics consider it the most prestigious part of Chianti DOCG producing complex wines with a long ageing potential.

Winemaking

Grapes for this delectable Chianti Rùfina Riserva are hand-harvested in the 4th week of September. At that time, they are more ripe, offering a more intensive flavour. After crushing, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks for 8-9 days, at a controlled temperature of 24°C.

Unlike the “regular” Chianti wine, Nicola Foscarini keeps this Riserva in contact with its skins for 14 days to extract even more tannins, colour and flavour. The wine is aged for 15 months, in a combination of small French oak barriques (225 litre) and tonneaux (500 litre). This ageing regimen – where oxygen slowly penetrates the wood – smoothens Sangiovese’s sharp tannins, while keeping the oaky flavours balanced.

Tasting note

“Musica” bursts with ripe flavour of violet flower, kirsch, and dark chocolate. This dark Chianti Riserva offers a spicy finish, with notes of dry herbs, pepper and juniper berry. A combination of bright freshness and sharp tannins indicates potential for ageing. Drink now or pop it in your cellar to enjoy in a few years.
