A UK-exclusive Gran Selezione. One of the best examples of Chianti Classico, with 20+ years ageing potential

Gran Selezione wine is only made in the best years. The grapes for this exceptional example come from a single vineyard in Radda, located in an area of Tuscany called “Il Corno” (the Horn). The vineyard sits roughly 400m above sea level, and faces south. Low production yields and optimal exposure to the sun help the grapes to ripen perfectly. Fermentation takes 5 months, with an additional 5 months of malolactic fermentation in new oak on the lees. The wine is aged in the same barrels for 20 months, with an additional 12 months in the bottle.

Tasting notes: Aromas of red berry fruit, spice and vanilla. Well-integrated velvety tannins. A persistent and balanced taste, with a long finish.

Ageing potential: over 20 years

“Attractive balsamic, coconut, eucalyptus and dried herbal nose with chewy, food-friendly tannins and flavours of cherry, plum and chocolate. Generous, persistent finish.” – Decanter Gold Medal

This has become a favourite bottle of mine; a real punchy fruity chianti that delivers tonnes of quality to impress at dinner party.
