From Castelletto in Monforte d’Alba, one of the most prized sites in Barolo. Mundus Vini Gold Medal
This delicious Barolo is produced by the famous Gussalli Beretta family, in their Monforte d’Alba winery “Forte Masso”. 2015 was possibly this decade’s best year for Barolo, and how lucky are we that this wine will soon be ready for drinking? Fermented in stainless steel tanks, it spent a long post-fermentation maceration on the skins to maximise the extraction of colour and tannins. The wine was then matured for 30 months in oak, and after that aged in bottle for another 8 months in the cellar.
Tasting notes: Deep ruby colour, pronounced aromas of black cherry, raisins, dried herbs and spices. Hints of cloves and black pepper – with a pleasant touch of leather – come from the oak ageing. Dry on the palate, it has balanced acidity with refined medium tannins and a long finish.
Ageing potential: 20 years
Awards: Mundus Vini, Gold Medal | Japan Awards, 2019: Gold Award | James Suckling 91 points | Falstaff Trophy 2019: 92 Points
