Crafted from Sangiovese and Merlot, this is the signature Chianti Classico wine from the winemaker at La Castellina
This is the signature wine of La Castellina winery’s winemaker – Dr Tommaso Bojola (pronounced “Bo-yo-la”). It’s made of rich and spicy Sangiovese is softened by elegant Merlot. The notable feature of this wine is its exceptionally soft tannins, complemented by rich flavours of blackberry and dried prunes. It is matured in a combination of small 225-litre oak barriques and large 500-litre tonneaux for 18 months – well over the six month standard maturation period for most Chianti Classico DOCG wines. It has characteristic flavours of raspberry from Sangiovese grapes, while Merlot adds the rich taste of black fruits. The maturation in oak for such a long time softens the tannins while integrating and developing the deep, fruity flavours.
Tasting notes: Dry with pronounced aromas of fresh raspberry and blackberry, cinnamon, leather and coffee. High acidity and lots of rounded, soft tannins. A delightfully long finish.
