Named one of Italy’s best red wines (Three Glasses, 2021), this pure and elegant Brunello is produced by Ridolfi – ranked the “Up-and-Coming winery of the Year”. UK exclusive.

“A Brunello, like the award-winning Ridolfi Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2015, is a real occasion wine with bold tannins and lots of red fruit up front.”Forbes

One of “The Best Wines of Tuscany”Gambero Rosso

This Brunello di Montalcino received an enviable score of 94/100 points from leading wine expert James Suckling. He wrote: “spice, hot stone, plum and cherry aromas…needs two or three years to come completely together, but already beautiful.”

This wine was crafted by Ridolfi: a small private winery in the cooler north-east corner of the Montalcino area, which is known for its elegant wines. It’s made from 100% Sangiovese, which was harvested by hand at the end of September / early October. The DOCG wine laws demand that Brunello di Montalcino is aged for at least two years in oak, and four months in bottle. But this premium wine from Ridolfi exceeds the minimum: it was aged for three years in oak followed by twelve months in the bottle. Ridolfi is very careful not to overpower the delicate aromas of Sangiovese with the taste of oak. For this wine, large barrels of Slavonian oak were used. This introduces a subtle and almost invisible flavour which serves to highlight the natural elegant aromas of the Sangiovese grape.

Tasting notes

In the glass, this Brunello has translucent garnet colour. Enveloping pronounced aromas of raspberry, strawberry, red cherry, cinnamon, prune and dried cranberry. This wine is dry on the palate, with powerful tannins, high alcohol and a full body. Its high acidity levels are excellent for long ageing. Each sip is filled with flavours of red fruits, cinnamon, dried cranberry and leather. This wine is complex, with a long and pleasant finish.

“A juicy, elegant and plush example with a floral and dried berry perfume. Good potential here with quite a long spicy and herbal finish.” – Decanter

Game meats like venison also call for bold wines. If you’re planning to spend your day outside exploring the great outdoors, nothing beats coming home to a hearty venison stew that’s been simmering in the slow cooker. As well as garlic, red wine and woody herbs like rosemary and thyme, this stew is also spiced with juniper berries. These strong flavours deserve a standout wine, and Fiona MacLean of London Unattached recommends Ridolfi Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. She says it is:

“soft but full of flavour with bold tannins and lots of red fruit. It’s a special occasion wine that I’d love to drink every day – and has plenty of depth to pair with the venison shanks.”
