You’re helping us to do our bit for the climate crisis, with 200 trees planted since we partnered with Ecologi at the end of August.
Since August 31, the Bristol-based start-up has been planting a tree for every Independent Wine order containing three or more bottles. And, after just a month and a half of running the campaign, your orders have already funded 200 trees!
Our response to the climate crisis: 100 new trees funded in September
If you’re wondering how it works: customers like you fund planting a tree with each eligible order. We set this money aside, and at the end of each month send it directly to Ecologi. They use this to fund various deforestation projects around the world. Our most recent contribution will pay for planting 100 trees of the Carica papaya species in Uganda.
Independent Wine trees: September update
Added this month: 100 trees
Species: Carica papaya
Tree numbers: 51,127,162 → 51,127,261
So far, the grove funded by our customers (like you) includes 112 trees in Uganda, 37 on Madagascar, 24 in Mozambique and 18 in Kenya. We can’t wait to grow our forest even further!
Why we chose Ecologi to respond to the climate crisis
One of the reasons we chose Ecologi as our partner is that they’re fully transparent about where the trees are being planted. Evidence of tree planting is clearly displayed on their website.
As a result, we know our trees are part of projects to restore terrestrial forest in Mozambique, coastal mangroves in Madagascar and to establish forest gardens in Eastern Uganda.
So, why are we only doing this for larger orders?
Our rationale is that larger orders mean fewer vans on the road. Sending multiple bottles at once doesn’t greatly increase CO2 emissions. However sending one bottle on Monday – and another two to the same address on Saturday – does.
By encouraging our customers to buy a few bottles at once rather than spreading deliveries over multiple days, we’re hoping to reduce the number of vans on the road.
Don’t worry: we’re doing this without raising our prices. All costs come straight out of our own profits. This means that if you join us in our fight against the climate crisis, 200 trees planted won’t cost you any extra.
Fighting the climate crisis: 200 trees is good, but 300 will be better
We’re looking forward to reaching our next big milestone. Helping us do it is as simple as ordering your favourite fine Italian wine. Just choose three (or more) bottles from our huge selection of award winners.
Even better, many wineries that we stock – such as Massimago, Gagliole and Salvatore Tamburello – are passionate about organic and sustainable winemaking. Choosing them means doing your bit for the environment from vineyard, all the way to first sip.
